YFB January Issue- Music- Fault Station's 'The Final Third' {Risse C}

'For substance deprived rhymes to rise and make a mark in this. Like partying is all they see in this, pardon me the power of the spoken word to reach the audience'  -Fault Station

In an industry which struggles to be recognized as a viable enterprise in Barbados, the rap/hip hop genre can be considered the weakest link. However, the duo group Fault Station knowingly accepts the challenge to create lyrically strong, socially aware and thought provoking music; setting them apart from many of their international counterparts.

Kirkland 'Kas' Seale and Jabari 'Montana' Jemmott are kicking down the door and causing a disturbance in the local rap scene with 'The Final Third'. Even though they consider themselves rappers, their sound is anything but generic. Listening to their 2010 debut mixtape, produced by Stewart 'Strat' Carter of Triple E Studios, you will witness an amalgamation of sound ranging from rock and roll to ballads; with each track using an original beat- not the usual associated with the term 'mixtape'.

With no two tracks alike, it is testament to their hard work. No strangers to the long studio hours and the fine tuning by Montana, a self professed perfectionist, Kas's studio time transforms him to his alter ego, moving away from his usual introvert and becoming a beast on the mic, spitting rhymes like they are his last.

This 12 track compilation is capable of being a hit with any audience, from 'Welcome to the Show' -an introduction to the entire experience and kudos, to 'Pleasure Doin Business' -a story about a man who yields to sexual temptation but home girl turns out to be a con artist. Other bangers on the album are 'Winner' feat. B-Roca and Teff; 'The Departed' feat. Chrissy Headley; 'Prelude to the Next Time' feat. B-Nice and 'Make Way' a Million Dollar Music production.

No explanation can do justice to this musical masterpiece- you just gotta listen to it!The flow: insane, the lyrics: poetic, the message: raw and uncut. With the heart and soul of winners, these two are destined for greatness in 2011 and beyond.

Happy New Year to one and all, I hope you rang in the new year with all the love and prosperity in China :)

First on the agenda: Fault Station is BACK and they are going innnnnn. The dynamic duo have set their goals for 2010 and are doing all that is needed to reach them. So studio time, writing, spitting 3 songs in one hour...that's how we hustle!

So look out for the mixtape previews, on the scene and behind the scenes footage coming soon!

Secondly, we all know the blog has been approached to do a show on www.caribfyah.com. The season starts this month so look out for that - an indepth panel discussion on the domestic violence in Barbados as well as an interview with UP and COMING supermodel Imogen Cooper, Barbadian Born & Raised! That's right we are a melting pot of very talented individuals who intend to TAKE OVER the world. GO Hard or GO Home!!!!

That's it for now...Y.F.B is on the GO for 2010, but will definately be keeping you posted.

Don't forget to keep looking out for the footage and we are going to be on Facebook soon as well so stay tuned.

Intro-Spection ☆ Serenity, Courage and Wisdom☆

As mentioned before, things music wise will be quiet as both my clients, Fault Station and Fiona are just ordinary people and like all other ordinary people they face obstacles with time, obstacles with making the paper to support their music and as we call it being "starving artistes".

It has been frustrating somewhat as you see so much that should be happening but circumstances are just beyond your control...so what do you do? Freak out an become depressed or ask God to grant you the serenity to accept the things you cannot change, the courage to change the things you can and the wisdom to know the difference. I opt for the latter these days, when you never know what life will throw at you.

So I will see this as an opportunity rather than a hindrance, and grasp it by the horns to just speak my mind. So I guess those who read this will get to see a more personal side of me rather than me just speaking on behalf of someone else.

So much is going on in the world now..it is difficult to pinpoint a topic that won't have interrelated tentacles stretching and tangled into everything else. I guess I will start from this exact point and see where it goes... right now the TV is on and Erykah Badu is doing her thing from back in the day when she first started out...I love music btw...anything and all things music so most of the time when I'm watching TV its on VH1 Soul or BET.

I guess that is my topic for tonight..Black Music and I find it fitting since its suppose to be Black History Month...but coming from Barbados...every month is Black History Month since we make up 90% of the country's population. But back to the music..I find there has been a rapid and dynamic evolution in the music scene, with influences from bluegrass to folk and I ask myself..Is this the globalization of music? Maybe so since we are trying so hard to become smaller using communication and technology. But as my mum always says everything in moderation and its all well and good to have the merger of the different genres but I am weary of it getting to the point where you cannot tell the difference between hip hop and dancehall...or reggae and rap.

But hey...who am I right...I'm not a music mogul or a industry exec so what do I know? Who knows? I love the new sound from Kayne, Pharrell and others who have given the radio waves the much needed injection of innovation to pull it back from falling over the edge of despair.

That's my input for now...don't know if I will have more to say at a later date...maybe :)
